What to Ask a Drone Detection Technology Supplier Before a Project
A project-level guide to testing fit, accountability, and evidence before adopting drone-detection technology. Ask what is lawful, safe, reviewable, and supportable at the intended site—not for universal claims.
INFORMATION & PROJECT-GOVERNANCE CONTEXT / CONCEPTUAL SCENE
Put technology questions back into an authorised, reviewable, and verifiable project context.
This conceptual scene helps explain conditional information, protected services, human review, and written validation. It is not a deployment or field-outcome claim.
BLOG SUMMARY
Four questions for a defensible project decision
A project-level guide to testing fit, accountability, and evidence before adopting drone-detection technology. Ask what is lawful, safe, reviewable, and supportable at the intended site—not for universal claims.

INFORMATION CONTEXT / 01
1. Is the project context lawful and defined?
Ask the supplier to describe the assumptions behind its proposal: lawful authority, protected services, site constraints, safety offsets, privacy duties, and which decisions remain with the customer. A site fit assessment should start with governance and a clearly bounded purpose, not a generic capability statement.
CONDITIONS & UNCERTAINTY / 02
2. What complementary evidence can be considered?
Ask when conditional information inputs—such as passive acoustic, RF reception, radar, EO/IR, fibre-optic links, or authorised C2 data—are relevant, and what each can and cannot establish. Discuss multi-sensor corroboration, data provenance, gaps, and environmental or site-specific limitations without treating any input as conclusive on its own.
CORROBORATION / 03
3. Who reviews information and remains accountable?
Require a clear human-review model: named roles, training expectations, uncertainty handling, privacy safeguards, access controls, and records of material decisions. The supplier should explain how people can question, contextualise, or reject an indication; technology should inform authorised human judgment rather than replace it.
GOVERNANCE & VALIDATION / 04
4. What will be validated in writing?
Before commitment, ask for written validation covering scope, assumptions, lawful test methods, safety offsets, limitations, maintenance responsibilities, data handling, change control, and acceptance or review checkpoints. Require documented site-specific findings and unresolved issues; do not accept universal detection, identification, coverage, reliability, or performance guarantees in place of evidence.
TECHNICAL & COMPLIANCE BOUNDARY / 05
This guide is an educational project reference—not an operating, deployment, integration, or performance instruction.
01Availability and interpretation of acoustic, RF, radar, EO/IR, visual, and other information depend on site conditions, environment, data quality, protected services, permissions, privacy, and accountable review. This page does not promise detection, identification, classification, location assessment, tracking, availability, safety, non-interference, or risk outcomes.
02Any equipment, interface, data handling, industrial-system connection, spectrum-related arrangement, aviation coordination, or later project decision requires appropriate authority, engineering review, qualified personnel, and written scope.
03The public guide does not provide target selection, sensor positioning, thresholds, algorithms, execution sequences, signal control, interference, navigation manipulation, or response methods.
