RF sensing across a large security site: a governed project question
A large security site may consider RF detection sensing as one authorised information input within a broader counter-UAS governance programme. The project should define what questions the information is permitted to support, which protected services must remain uninterrupted, and who is accountable for reviewing uncertain observations. This guide does not prescribe sensor locations, coverage, detection settings, frequencies, algorithms, target selection, or intervention. Instead, it frames deployment as a documented assurance exercise: establish lawful purpose, record evidence limits, protect privacy and electromagnetic compatibility, and obtain written validation before any operational reliance.
INFORMATION & PROJECT-GOVERNANCE CONTEXT / CONCEPTUAL SCENE
Put technology questions back into an authorised, reviewable, and verifiable project context.
This conceptual scene helps explain conditional information, protected services, human review, and written validation. It is not a deployment or field-outcome claim.
BLOG SUMMARY
A governed RF evidence question, not an operating recipe
Treat site-wide RF sensing as a governed evidence service, not a promise of detection. Authorised scope, protected services, human review, privacy controls, and written validation should determine whether project stakeholders may rely on its outputs.

PROJECT QUESTION / 01
1. Define the authorised information question
Begin with a project charter that states why RF information is being collected, who may access it, and what decisions it may inform. The charter should distinguish exploratory assessment from any later operational use and should identify prohibited inferences, unapproved data uses, and retention boundaries. Site ownership, security leadership, legal advisers, and affected service owners may jointly approve the scope. Where the request is too broad to validate, narrow it to a specific, documented information question. No output should be treated as a confirmed fact merely because a system presents it in a dashboard.
CONTEXT & UNCERTAINTY / 02
2. Bound evidence, privacy, and protected services
RF observations may be incomplete, ambiguous, or affected by lawful emitters and changing site conditions. Project records should therefore describe uncertainty without publishing thresholds, ranges, frequencies, or coverage assumptions. A privacy assessment may address incidental collection, access roles, retention, deletion, and notice obligations, subject to applicable law. An electromagnetic-compatibility review should protect communications, safety systems, industrial controls, and other protected services. Safe offsets and exclusion decisions should be defined in writing by qualified owners, rather than inferred from a vendor diagram or an unverified site-wide claim.
PROTECTION & COMPLIANCE / 03
3. Govern interpretation through accountable review
Human review should remain responsible for interpreting RF analysis, resolving conflicts with other authorised information, and recording the basis for any project conclusion. Interfaces may separate raw evidence, analyst commentary, confidence statements, and administrative status so that presentation does not imply certainty. Access should follow least privilege, with audit records for changes, exports, and approvals. Reviewers may flag missing context, possible benign explanations, or data-quality limitations. The guide does not prescribe target selection, tracking, response flow, signal control, or intervention; those matters require separate lawful governance and are outside this record.
GOVERNANCE & VALIDATION / 04
4. Validate the project in writing before reliance
Before a large-site project is accepted, stakeholders should sign a written validation package covering authorised purpose, evidence limitations, protected-service safeguards, privacy and EMC assessments, human-review duties, ownership, and escalation for disputed results. Validation may use controlled, lawful test evidence and documented acceptance questions, without publishing operational parameters or performance guarantees. Any material change to site use, communications environment, legal basis, data handling, or interface should trigger review. If a limitation cannot be explained or a safeguard cannot be evidenced, the project should remain advisory until the responsible authority records a suitable disposition.
TECHNICAL & COMPLIANCE BOUNDARY / 05
This guide is an educational project reference—not an operating, deployment, integration, or performance instruction.
01Availability and interpretation of acoustic, RF, radar, EO/IR, visual, and other information depend on site conditions, environment, data quality, protected services, permissions, privacy, and accountable review. This page does not promise detection, identification, classification, location assessment, tracking, availability, safety, non-interference, or risk outcomes.
02Any equipment, interface, data handling, industrial-system connection, spectrum-related arrangement, aviation coordination, or later project decision requires appropriate authority, engineering review, qualified personnel, and written scope.
03The public guide does not provide target selection, sensor positioning, thresholds, algorithms, execution sequences, signal control, interference, navigation manipulation, or response methods.
