INFORMATION CONTEXT / 01

1. Start with the decision context

TECHNICAL GUIDE · TECHNICAL GUIDE

Define the lawful purpose, protected services, safety offsets, accountable roles, and information boundaries before selecting inputs. Passive acoustic and RF reception may be considered alongside radar, EO/IR, fibre-optic links, and C2 information only where their use is authorised and appropriate to the site. Site fit is a governance and safety question as much as a sensing question; it must not be presented as universal detection, identification, range, coverage, or reliability.

CONDITIONS & UNCERTAINTY / 02

2. Treat acoustic and RF as complementary evidence

TECHNICAL GUIDE · TECHNICAL GUIDE

Acoustic observations can contribute context about an acoustic signature, while RF reception can contribute a separate, conditional view of radio activity. Their value is in corroboration rather than substitution: each may be incomplete, ambiguous, or affected by the site and authorised environment. A project should record what each input can and cannot establish, without prescribing sensor placement, frequency details, target selection, thresholds, or response actions.

CORROBORATION / 03

3. Keep human review accountable

TECHNICAL GUIDE · TECHNICAL GUIDE

Use multi-sensor corroboration to support a structured human review, not to automate a conclusion. Reviewers should examine provenance, uncertainty, conflicts between inputs, privacy and protected-service considerations, and the limits of any radar, EO/IR, fibre-optic, or C2 information supplied under authorisation. Record who reviewed the information, what judgement was made, and what remained unresolved.

GOVERNANCE & VALIDATION / 04

4. Validate the project in writing

TECHNICAL GUIDE · TECHNICAL GUIDE

Before deployment or any operational reliance, document the intended use, lawful authority, protected services, safety offsets, human-review process, data handling, exclusions, and acceptance criteria in a written validation record. Validate the combined evidence under representative, authorised conditions and state the boundaries of what was not tested. Update the record when the site, services, authority, or information inputs change; written validation is required for site fit and is not a guarantee of outcomes.

TECHNICAL & COMPLIANCE BOUNDARY / 05

This guide is an educational project reference—not an operating, deployment, integration, or performance instruction.

01Availability and interpretation of acoustic, RF, radar, EO/IR, visual, and other information depend on site conditions, environment, data quality, protected services, permissions, privacy, and accountable review. This page does not promise detection, identification, classification, location assessment, tracking, availability, safety, non-interference, or risk outcomes.

02Any equipment, interface, data handling, industrial-system connection, spectrum-related arrangement, aviation coordination, or later project decision requires appropriate authority, engineering review, qualified personnel, and written scope.

03The public guide does not provide target selection, sensor positioning, thresholds, algorithms, execution sequences, signal control, interference, navigation manipulation, or response methods.
